Unistara offers a wide range of products for glass furnaces, especially for critical applications, regardless of whether it is flat glass, fiberglass, container glass or special slabs.

Palisade blocks

Made by isostatic pressing of two refractory mixtures characterized by different chromium content. The region corresponding to the metal line of the basin, strongly stressed, is made of chromium-based material, while the lower part, less subject to corrosion, contains 30% of chromium. In addition to a cost reduction of 15%, they are characterized by a homogeneous surface area that results in a smooth transition without phase separation.

Fibrous and non-fibrous insulating products

Mats and papers for vault insulation, expansion joints and smoke evacuation systems in the grades Fiberfrax® (ceramic fibres based on aluminium silicate, with classification temperatures above 1400°C), Insulfrax® (low bio persistence fibres based on calcium and magnesium silicate wool (AES) and classification temperatures up to 1260°C) and Isofrax® (low bio persistence fibres based on magnesium silicate wool and classification temperatures up to 1400°C).

Expendables

Unistara offers consumables (expendables) and feeder blocks in different qualities, made by shell casting, vibro-compaction, hand moulding or pressed. The choice of raw materials with a high degree of purity and firing at high temperatures determine a low potential for defects in the glass produced, while the porosity, obtained during firing, determines excellent resistance to thermal shock.

Fused-Persistence™

Fused-Persistence™ shaped products are made from high-quality refractory cast raw materials such as zirconium, corundum, mullite and silica and have a bonding phase specifically designed for their respective fields of application. The much higher corrosion resistance compared to conventional materials, increases the resistance of the basin, regenerator, reformer and reactor, improving plant performance and reducing production costs.

Zro2ck Endurance

Zro2ck Endurance sintered zirconium products, specially designed for burners, supports, pin blocks, lintels, spy blocks or even iron covers, drastically reduce hot erosion, increasing the gas and abrasion resistance of the most exposed areas of the glass melting furnace superstructure.

Low Energy Crown

High-efficiency vault made by combining silica-based rhomboidal blocks and insulating blocks with extremely low density. The increase in the surface area of the rhomboidal blocks improves thermal efficiency by reducing fuel consumption or achieving higher temperatures with the same consumption.

Isolation of the palisade

It consists of blocks made by hydraulic pressing of two insulating mixes, characterized by a relatively low density and high resistance to cold compression.

Types of installations

Melting basin

For the basin slabs, palisade insulation and the furnace superstructure, silica-alumina and zirconium-based formats are generally used. For the vaults of the End Port, Side Port, Float and Oxyfuel (LO-NOX) furnaces, Unistara offers low residual quartz (Low Flux) silica products

Regenerators

The masonry parts that make up the regeneration chambers, including stacking arches and smoke duct, are made with MgO, sillimanite, mullite, silica-alumina and insulating formats.

Channels and Refiners

Sillimanite, mullite and zirconium mullite formats are used for the channels and the refiner superstructures, while the channel tanks are made with high alumina content formats. The lining is completed with insulating and/or silica-alumina formats, ceramic fibre or microporous panels.

Areas particularly exposed to wear

Groove, dog-house corners, anti-return wall, boiler and electrode holder blocks, iron covers, are made with special isostatically pressed chrome/zirconium blocks.
